With the increasing investment in rail transit infrastructure in China, particularly in vehicle procurement, the output of passenger vehicles, locomotives and subway trains showed explosive growth in 2009, which fueled the substantial growth of rail transit air-conditioning market. The output capacity of rail transit air-conditioners in China reached 31,500 sets in 2009, up 14.5% from a year earlier.
Railway and urban rail transit have higher requirement on the qualification of producing air-conditioning products, and the manufacturers can not enter Chinese urban rail transit market without obtaining product testing certificates and the running reports. In 2009, the top five manufacturers in the production of air-conditioners for railways and subways held more than 90% market shares, of which, Shijiazhuang King Transportation Equipment Co., Ltd accounted for around 35% of total output capacity, reaching about 11,000 sets per year.
